A SOLIHULL artist has been teaching CPR through her creations in a charity exhibition which has been showcased on both sides of the Atlantic.
Charlie Kirkham worked alongside US based Not for Profit HeartCharged to create the inaugural Sudden Cardiac Art Exhibition to end preventable cardiac deaths and gender disparity, held in Gloucestershire, UK during September.
After the success of the 2024 UK exhibition they’re now in Los Angeles.
The exhibition shows 10 bespoke pieces created by Charlie Kirkham and 30 works from international artists including Arianna Tinulla Milesi, The Artist Robert, RukzOne, Dr Chime Lahtso, Dr Liz Murray and Ilua Hauck da Silva.
Curated by Ted Meyer as part of the Art and Medicine programme at Keck School of Medicine, the exhibition is showing at the Hoyt Gallery, University of Southern California.
It started after an Instagram hashtag joined Bethany and Hannah Keime, living with the deadly heart condition, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and artist Charlie Kirkham.
After talking about the significantly lower survival rates for women in sudden cardiac arrest they wanted to raise awareness and save lives.
Charlie said: “Painting women who’ve survived sudden cardiac arrest to celebrate their beauty alongside creating paintings to teach CPR has been wonderful.
“Watching the project grow from an Instagram grid into two physical exhibitions shows how powerful images can be in sharing this important message.
“The artworks celebrate the beauty of honouring another human by taking simple actions which could save their life.”
